    Welcome

Walking away from anything that keeps us captive is necessary but also hard because familiarity is comfortable. Here, we seek to escape captivity by focusing not on our comfort, but on the freedom that Jesus has already secured for us. We find this freedom through God's inspired rhema Word.

    Who am I?

I'm Carla McNeal and I'm a wife, mama, daughter, sister, and friend. In my humanness, I am infinitely flawed, broken, and imperfect. But as a new creature, I am perfectly loved by an infallible God and am made whole by the Blood of a redeeming Jesus Christ. I sincerely desire to be the salt and light through the leading and wisdom of the Holy Spirit.

  • Why Ramah? And what is Rhema?

Ramah was a Biblical place of mourning, captivity, and idolatry. During a time of mourning for the children I did not have, I discovered my own idolatry and realized my need for freedom. Out of that was borne a series of devotionals that served as a balm to my aching, longing, and grieving soul. Once I started this journey, I found peace with being childless: I learned to focus my thoughts elsewhere- mainly on God's grace to carry me through my pain. Even now, after having been blessed with a son, I still struggle with captivity in areas of my life. I definitely have not "arrived."

When we feel that God is speaking directly to us, that is a rhema word. I once heard it explained that it's when the words from scripture seem to "jump out at you." During my time of search for release, certain scriptures became rhema to me and were the foundation of my devotional writings. My hope is that through these devotionals, you can also find freedom from whatever is keeping you captive: thoughts, relationships, flawed habits, unfulfilled dreams, past hurts, and trauma. Be honest with yourself about where you are. Let the words that God speaks directly to you through scripture- His rhema word- be the key that allows you to walk in your God-ordained freedom.
